Community Focused Online Psychotherapy Practice
"History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again."
—Maya Angelou
Providing weekly remote therapy to adults in New York.
The NYCAP Philosophy.
You are not alone. We firmly believe that change is possible and that we as human beings grow in relationships where an empathic and attuned other bears witness to our struggles. We recognize the innate strengths that continue to allow people to function while enduring difficult life circumstances. We know the courage it takes to embark upon this process of healing and we believe that you can.
How we’re different.
For over seven years we’ve been dedicated to making therapy accessible to ALL New Yorkers. As we know firsthand what it’s like to come into a space that was not built with you in mind. Our services are accessible because we work directly with insurance providers, so most folks will only owe a small copay for sessions. If we don’t accept your insurance we offer a no questions asked sliding scale fee. We don’t believe that you should have to pay $250 for the privilege of a clinically skillful therapist that can help you. This is essential to our commitment to social justice.
NYC Affirmative Psychotherapy is and has always been a QPOC owned practice. We have an exceptional team of licensed social workers available to work with you. All of our staff therapists complete two years of graduate school, annual continuing education courses, and many have advanced training in specific modalities. All of our therapists are also members of the communities that we are dedicated to serving across the breadth of New Yorkers.
We offer individual, group, and couples therapy to NY residents, 18+. Our sessions are all online. We accept many insurance plans in-network. And we make the intake process easy, just complete our intake form and you will hear from us shortly.
You are not alone. Lets take the next step together.

Our mission.
Our mission is simple: provide affirmative psychotherapy in a sustainable way to the community. By affirmative we mean that we do not view individuals from the perspective of being defective or needing to be fixed.
We instead recognize the innate strengths that continue to allow people to function while enduring difficult life circumstances. Challenging childhoods and distressing adult experiences, coupled with the toxic impact of systemic oppression, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism and xenophobia impact our mental health. Our goal is to fill a gap in mental health services provided to those that are historically marginalized and disenfranchised; we are especially committed to serving queer communities of color. We also strive to be culturally aware and trauma-informed.
And, most importantly, we’re here to help you feel better and make change.
